The University Florist at Mississippi State will showcase holiday decor and gift ideas during an open house Friday [Dec. 2] from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the flower shop located at 100 Lee Blvd. in the center of campus.

Patrons are invited to browse the unique collections, enjoy refreshments, register for door prizes and meet new florist manager Taylor Paine. Paine is succeeding longtime manager Lynette McDougald, who now is devoting her efforts to fulltime teaching at the university.

The University Florist at Mississippi State recently celebrated 82 years of service to the MSU campus. The florist is a retail shop operated by the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Students employed in the shop are enrolled in the MSU floral management concentration in horticulture.

Mississippi State University is one of a few universities in the nation to offer retail training for students pursuing a degree in floral management.
