Dr. Betty H. Stewart

Dr. Betty H. Stewart - 2024

Dr. Betty Hill Stewart (Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry 1982) serves as executive vice president and provost at Hampton University in Virginia. After earning her bachelor's degree at MSU, she earned a doctoral degree from Carnegie-Mellon University with a specialization in protein biochemistry and biological sciences.

Stewart has spent her professional career in academia. She has served as provost and executive vice president at the University of North Texas at Dallas from 2017-2024 and at Midwestern State University-Texas from 2012-2017, where she implemented new academic programs, core curriculum standards, and STEM initiatives. Her impact at Midwestern State University-Texas was honored with a science laboratory named in her honor.

Throughout her career, Stewart has revitalized STEM programs, developed and led a biochemistry program at Austin College, and led the design and construction of a state-of-the-art STEM building at the University of North Texas at Dallas, set to open in 2026. She has been recognized nationally for her contributions in mentoring STEM faculty interested in assuming university leadership roles.

She has been recognized by the American Association of University Women and the American Associate of Colleges and Universities Project Kaleidoscope Faculty for the 21st Century.

She and her husband reside in Hampton, Virginia.
